Hi, my name is Sarah and I have been a second grade teacher for the past five years at Peterson Elementary in Chicago! I grew up in the suburb of Palatine and ever since I was young I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I grew up playing school with my sister and friends.
I completed my bachelors at Loyola University Chicago in Elementary Education. I loved my time in college and in the city but knew I wanted an adventure before beginning my teaching career. After graduating, I completed a year of service with Jesuit Volunteer Corps where I was a fifth grade teacher on a Native American Reservation in rural Montana.
After that year I returned home and got a job as a second grade teacher. During this time I decided that I wanted to explore other options in a school rather than just being a general education teacher. I am currently getting my masters from Northeastern Illinois University in School Counseling. I love being in a school, but what I most value is the social-emotional aspect. I love getting to work one-on-one and in small groups with students. I am so excited to work with JAM teaching because it will allow me to continue teaching while building great relationships with students.
When I’m not teaching I love to go for walks, play with my dog Max, read, watch Netflix and spend time with my family!
