Hello, Families! My name is Mr. Andrew, and I teach 8th-grade math. I’ve been an educator for over twenty years, and my journey has taken me through many roles—from classroom teacher to school principal—and now, back to where I feel most energized: working directly with students every day.

I grew up in Racine, Wisconsin, and earned my bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. After moving to Chicago, I developed a passion for middle school math and earned my middle school math endorsement from the University of Illinois–Chicago. I later completed my master’s degree in instructional leadership at Northeastern Illinois University.

I began my teaching career in 2003 and spent many years in public education as a classroom teacher, math and science specialist, assistant principal, and school principal. In 2023, my family and I relocated, and I returned to the classroom to teach 8th grade math—a role I truly enjoy. In this role, I get to foster curiosity and a love for problem-solving in my students.

Outside of teaching, I love spending time with my family. Whether we’re building LEGO creations, playing basketball, or making music, I’m always finding ways to stay creative and connected.

One quote that guides my teaching philosophy is: “Too often we give children answers to remember rather than problems to solve.” For me, teaching math is about helping students make sense of the world, not just getting the right answers. I design lessons that prioritize critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving to build real mathematical understanding.
