Hi! My name is Mr. Jeremy, and I’m an experienced educator with over a decade of teaching, coaching, and leadership in Chicago schools. I hold a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, both from Indiana University. Over the past 8+ years, I’ve taught literacy and math in grades 1–5, served as an instructional coach supporting more than 50 teachers, and worked as a community school coordinator partnering with families and community organizations.
I specialize in tutoring elementary and middle school students (Grades K–8), with a focus on literacy/ELA (reading comprehension, writing, fluency), math, social-emotional learning, and executive functioning skills. I’ve designed engaging, standards-aligned resources now used by over 1,000 educators nationwide, and I’m proud of my ability to make challenging material approachable and motivating for students.
My teaching style is collaborative and student-centered. I believe in building strong relationships with students so they feel supported, seen, and confident in taking risks. I scaffold learning into manageable steps, celebrate small wins, and emphasize growth over perfection. My sessions focus on building not only academic skills but also confidence, independence, and resilience.
When working with students who have unique learning needs, I take time to understand their strengths, interests, and challenges. I use multisensory strategies for struggling readers, SEL practices for focus and self-regulation, and differentiated instruction to meet each student where they are. Communication with families is also a priority so that progress and strategies remain consistent at home and in tutoring.
Outside of teaching, I love solving brainteasers and problem-solving challenges, exploring Chicago’s neighborhoods and history, and visiting art galleries and museums for inspiration. A fun fact about me: I grew up in Indiana but now call Chicago home—and I still explore the city like a tourist.
Some of my accomplishments include receiving the highest growth in Spring Math and Reading NWEA scores across my school network, being recognized as a Trailblazer Educator for innovation and impact, and leading schoolwide SEL integration to help students build confidence and self-regulation. One of my proudest moments came when a former student referenced me during a Today Show segment on social-emotional learning, sharing that I had “changed his life by helping him believe in himself again and realize his full potential.
”A philosophy I carry into every session is simple: “Confidence is the foundation of learning — once a student believes in themselves, anything is possible.” I’m here to help students not only grow academically, but also discover the power of believing in themselves.
