Mr. Uriel

My name is Mr. Uriel. I am a molecular biologist by training and have spent several years teaching sciences at the college level. Beyond the classroom, I have always been the go-to person in my family for explaining concepts and assisting with homework, making me an unofficial tutor long before I pursued teaching professionally.

I was born in Rosales, a small town in Chihuahua, Mexico, and moved to the United States at five. Growing up in Chicago, I quickly adapted to the Chicago Public School system, where I developed an intense curiosity and love for learning. My academic journey was shaped by the rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which instilled in me discipline and perseverance. That foundation led me to earn a full scholarship for my undergraduate studies at DePaul University, where I majored in medicine and health sciences. I then pursued a master’s degree in molecular biology, which expanded my scientific knowledge and allowed me to teach at the college level.

As a graduate student, I taught various college-level science courses, including molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, anatomy, physics, and chemistry. These experiences taught me to break down complex concepts, calculations, and theories into digestible and engaging lessons. I specialize in working with visual learners, using real-life scenarios, interactive models, and detailed illustrations to clarify complex topics. My current profession as a scientist at CiRC Biosciences in Chicago's Fulton Market district allows me to stay engaged with cutting-edge scientific research while continuing to share my expertise with students.

Outside of academics, I enjoy lifting weights, hiking, and spending time with family and friends. My passion for physical activity mirrors my approach to teaching-learning is like training for a big hike or lifting a heavier weight. At first, the challenge may seem daunting, but with consistency, practice, and the right mindset, progress becomes evident, and success feels within reach.

Albert Einstein’s words resonate deeply with my teaching philosophy: “I never teach my pupils; I only provide the conditions in which they can learn.” Every student has a unique learning style, and my goal is to create an environment where they can thrive by tailoring my instruction to their strengths.

As a tutor, I apply my versatile teaching strategies to support students in mastering their academics, developing critical thinking skills, and becoming more confident learners. I believe in building strong relationships with families and providing the transparency and support needed to make a lasting impact on a child’s education.I look forward to learning together!
