Hi, I’m Ms. Isabel! I’m a passionate and dedicated special education teacher and tutor with a strong focus on early literacy and foundational math. I have five years of classroom experience as a special education teacher, having worked in Deerfield Public Schools and Hyde Park Day School, and five years of one-on-one tutoring experience in reading and math for elementary students.
I hold a degree in Learning Behavior Specialist education with an ESL endorsement from Bradley University and am Level 1 certified in the Wilson Reading System. My work is grounded in the Science of Reading, and I specialize in helping students, particularly those with dyslexia and other learning differences, build confidence and independence as readers.
I support students in grades K–5 for reading and grades K–3 for math, providing individualized instruction that meets each learner where they are. My teaching style is grounded in empathy, patience, and fostering strong relationships. I strive to create an environment where students feel seen, heard, and empowered. Whether through visual aids, hands-on activities, or breaking down tasks into manageable steps, I adapt my methods to ensure that each student can succeed in a way that works for them.
One of my proudest accomplishments is seeing students transition from avoiding reading to choosing books independently and with enthusiasm. As one parent shared: "We are so thankful for Isabel. My daughter used to avoid reading, but now she eagerly picks up books on her own. Isabel made learning to read feel like a fun adventure, always supporting her with patience and encouragement. She’s not just a tutor—she’s a true mentor who inspires confidence and makes a real difference!"
Outside of teaching, I love workout classes, walking the lakefront, and spending time with my family, especially my niece and nephew.
My teaching is guided by the belief that “Every student can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way.” I see each child’s unique potential and work with patience, compassion, and high expectations to help them reach their full potential.I look forward to partnering with families to support academic growth and help students develop a lifelong love of learning.
