Hello! My name is Ms. Jennifer, and I am an early childhood and elementary educator with a strong passion for nurturing young learners' academic and emotional growth. I hold a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Health Services from Western Michigan University, with minors in Psychology and Speech and Hearing Processing, and a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from the Erikson Institute with an endorsement in Special Education.
Over the past four years, I’ve taught kindergarten, first, and second grade, including the last two years working with gifted students at Decatur Classical School. My work focuses on early literacy, foundational math, writing, and social-emotional development. I specialize in supporting K–2 students and bring training in both gifted education and SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) into my practice.
My teaching style is collaborative and student-centered. I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring ideas, and developing their problem-solving strategies. By tailoring my approach to each learner's needs, I help them build confidence and independence.
I adopt a flexible and caring approach when working with students with unique learning needs. I get to know each child’s strengths and preferences and adjust my teaching methods accordingly. As trust builds, I continue to adapt and refine my instruction to meet each student's unique learning style and pace.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is helping young learners build confidence, enhance their comprehension, and develop a love for reading. It’s a joy to watch their progress and see them grow into independent, enthusiastic readers.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, being active, walking along the lake, and watching or playing sports. A fun fact about me is that I had a Dalmatian named Lucky when I was growing up. I also studied American Sign Language in college and continue to use it in my teaching. I’m currently learning Spanish to better connect with more students and families.
Two of my favorite quotes that guide my work are: “Be curious, not judgmental.” and “Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!” from The Magic School Bus.
These reminders help me encourage students to embrace curiosity, take risks, and find joy in the learning process. I’m excited to support your child on their academic journey and help them discover just how capable they are.
