Hello! My name is Ms. Sharon. I am currently an adjunct faculty member at Dominican University and a Clinical Practice Supervisor for Dominican University and National Louis University. I have a Masters of Science in Education with a professional license in Early Childhood Education. I am a former CPS teacher teaching at W.C. Goudy Elementary School in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. I have taught preschool, kindergarten, and first and second grade. I spent the longest time in first grade. I have done substitute teaching in District 25 as well in recent years.
As you can see, I have a variety of educational experiences. During my free time, I love spending time with my family, watching my boys play sports, reading, riding bikes, or playing Pickleball! It is my new favorite sport! I am happily married for 17 years and we are blessed to have two boys ages 14 and 11.
One of my favorite quotes is by Benjamin Franklin,” Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” I truly believe we learn by doing. This is why student teaching is so crucial for Education majors. They finally get to practice what they have learned. I am a very hands-on teacher. I believe children learn by doing not just watching. I want my students to be active participants in their learning. I use a variety of active learning techniques. I may use group work, role-playing, self-evaluation, student debates, exam evaluation, tutoring other students, etc. I want to show my students what I am trying to teach them, not just tell them. I am excited to bring some of my active learning strategies to students at Jam Teaching.
