Back to School Tip #1 🍎

1. Let your child know what to expect.

It's hard not to promise things when it comes to school year expectations. For example: "Your teacher is THE BEST SECOND GRADE TEACHER!" ... Talking up teachers is an easy thing to do. However, things change over the summer. Teacher's shift positions. Friendships evolve. We want our kids to be prepared but resilient. Try to stay neutral.

Prepare them for what you know to be true. Take a walk around their new grade level wing of the school. Typically, office staff and administration are in the school buildings over the summer. If you call and ask kindly, many are happy to welcome you in to peruse the hallways and get a feel for the change that's about to happen. Get the lay of the land. See some of the bulletin boards that will become familiar in the near future. Map out where bathrooms are, and classrooms where "specials" take place.
