2. Foster excitement about school.
Find your joy factor! Picking out new clothes for school is often an activity that gets everyone excited. Through planning outfits- kids can start to visualize what the year will look like.
Make back to school shopping an event- not just a chore. Get excited about the design on the take home folder. (Lisa Frank flashbacks anyone? 🦄 🌈🐬)
Select new school shoes, or go through your things from last year to decide now what fits and doesn't so it's not a game day surprise.
Get out the lunchbox and the backpack and give them a good wash! Seeing beloved and familiar things coming back out from storage can start to shift that mindset.
Talk positively about school. Try to avoid complaining about summer ending, "hating" a specific grade, or how much you are going to miss them when they go back to school. Certainly celebrate the time together, and hug them tight. However, excitement and happiness are contagious. If you are optimistic about the upcoming school year- chances are- they will be too.
