6. Promote independence and confidence through planning.
Every child is filled with "what if's". Providing them with the tools to take care of their own needs can help them start off the school year with a boost of confidence!
Some suggestions:⭐ Send a band aid or two for them to keep in their backpack or their pencil case!
⭐ Send a refillable water bottle that they can unscrew/screw themselves.
⭐ Role play with happens if they need to use the bathroom. (raise your hand, ask politely, use the toilet, wash your hands, return to class).
⭐ Teach them how to tie their own shoes.
⭐ Have some "practice lunches" before school officially starts to tackle how to open difficult packaging and new Tupperware. *The amount of time I would have had as a child to actually eat my lunch if I wasn't standing in line waiting for the lunch lady to help me open and stir my yogurt 🤦
⭐ Gently time your practice lunches and give suggestions on what they might want to eat first (something with protein), next (fruit, veggies to power them up), and last (chips, or some feel good snack).
