Beyond Behavior

This book is a must. Have you ever read a book that takes all the ideas from your mind and has them on paper? This was that type of book for me.

Mona Delahooke’s analysis and research into understanding and navigating behavior in a simplistic, loving fashion are powerful. Too often, we navigate challenging behaviors entirely backward. We don’t understand what is happening and don’t have the tools to respond to challenging behaviors appropriately. Our reactions can perpetuate behaviors, create trauma and cause an increase in challenging behaviors.

Kids don’t act out because they want to. They are communicating something. It is essential and powerful to identify what a child is seeking with their behavior and a replacement tool to get the same sensation or reaction. This book can help a parent or atypical or atypical developing child. It includes neuroscience-based tools, worksheets, strategies, and more.

This book will shift your mindset on behaviors. A parent or not, it will help create an empathetic pathway for you to understand yourself and the people around you better.

Next up on my reading list, her book Social and Emotional Development in Early Intervention. I wish this were a required read for all educators, as it would make significant impacts!
