Let's play!

"We have lost our minds in the United States when it comes to early childhood education," said William Doyle.

During a recent educational panel discussion, experts discussed the value of play for children.

"I mean that we have forgotten," Doyle continued, "to be mindful, and one aspect of being mindful in this arena, I would say, is to listen to children, to pay close attention to what they are biologically programmed to do...."

In an age where academia and standards are the driving force of schools, it requires educators to teach children to a set of norms that seems to get farther away from what children are meant to use as a mechanism to learning, play!

Did you know that students in Finland don't begin academic instruction until the age of 7? They spend the crucial early years exploring their world, playing and engaging in meaningful life foundational skills. They expose kids to the interactions with other children and prepare them for school. "School readiness means that the school has to be ready for different types of children."

The approach of Finland is a beautiful way to honor the inherent and vital needs of children. Development of love, relationship, and connection. These skills will carry them through life in a more beautiful way than anything.
