Hello! My name is Mr. Brett, and I am an experienced educator passionate about helping students grow academically and personally. I have worked in education for over 14 years as a teacher and spent 10 years as a school principal, giving me a well-rounded perspective on student learning and development. Throughout my career, I have taught middle school social studies and math, fourth grade in a self-contained classroom, and physical education, providing me with experience across various subjects and grade levels.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Concordia University, Seward, and later pursued a master’s in educational leadership from Concordia University, St. Paul. While my background includes leadership training, my true passion lies in working one-on-one with students to help them develop confidence, executive functioning skills, and a love for learning. I have extensive experience supporting students with ADHD and diverse learning needs, creating structured and engaging learning experiences tailored to their strengths and challenges.
My teaching style is student-centered, collaborative, and patient. I focus on meeting students where they are, adapting my approach to their unique learning styles, and fostering an environment where they feel empowered to ask questions and take ownership of their education. I also integrate real-world applications and executive functioning strategies to ensure students develop subject knowledge and critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-advocacy skills that will serve them beyond the classroom.
Outside of education, I am an avid runner and guitarist. I have completed 10 marathons, a testament to my perseverance and dedication, which I strive to instill in my students. I love helping learners develop confidence and independence and guiding them to reach their full potential.
One of my favorite guiding quotes comes from Rudyard Kipling’s "If": "If you can fill the unforgiving minute with sixty seconds of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything in it." This philosophy speaks to the value of persistence, effort, and embracing challenges—principles that shape my approach to teaching and learning.
I look forward to working closely with students and families, providing personalized instruction that meets their needs, and fostering a lifetime love of learning.
