Hello! My name is Ms. Julia, and I’m a dedicated special education teacher and tutor passionate about helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. I hold a B.S. in Special Education from Eastern Illinois University and am a certified LBS1 teacher with several years of experience supporting students in grades K–8 across all subjects.
Since 2021, I’ve worked as a special education teacher in Chicago Public Schools and have provided one-on-one tutoring in reading and math since 2014. I currently serve as my school's MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) coordinator and have extensive experience using research-based programs such as SPIRE, Wilson Reading System, and Leveled Literacy Interventions (LLI). These tools allow me to tailor instruction to each student’s unique learning profile, building foundational skills and boosting confidence.
I specialize in reading, writing, math, and social-emotional development for students in grades K–5 and support reading and math interventions for students up to grade 8. My teaching style is structured, supportive, and student-centered. I work to meet each learner where they are and create a calm, encouraging environment that allows students to take academic risks, celebrate progress, and build independence.
My approach is rooted in high expectations, empathy, and personalized instruction. I use various strategies, such as visual aids, sentence stems, scaffolding, and sensory tools, to help students understand content and develop confidence. I believe in the power of strong relationships and continuous learning, so I’ve completed all components of the National Board Certification process for Exceptional Needs Students and await results in December 2025.
Outside the classroom, I love cooking, exploring new recipes, traveling locally and internationally, and playing the piano. Music is a big part of my life; I enjoy incorporating it into my teaching. I’m also known for celebrating every holiday with my students, turning ordinary days into fun and meaningful learning experiences.
A guiding quote for my work is from Malcolm X: “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs only to the people who prepare for it today.
”Every student has the potential to thrive with the proper support. One parent once shared: "I've been consistently moved by the passion, empathy, and skill you bring to your role with diverse learners. It's clear that you don’t just see students—you see them, their strengths, their challenges, and their potential."
I’m excited to continue partnering with families to help each child unlock their unique strengths and confidently grow.
